Members of the Institute participate in the Antarctic training course in Argentina

Since August 20 to September 7, the next Artigas Base Chief (2019-2020), Cnel. Emilio Obelar and the Head of Maintenance of the Institute, TN (CG) Almir Debra, participate in the module “Polar Technique” of the Course of Joint Antarctic Training of Argentina.

The course is perform in the Caviahue-Copahue Municipality of the Argentine Province of Neuquén. Its purpose is to train Antarctic endowments in techniques and skills, necessary to meet the demands of the place. The activity is carried out in the orbit of the Antarctic Training Center of the Argentine Antarctic Joint Command.

Participants receive instruction on downhill and ski crossing techniques, base maintenance, navigation in pneumatic boats, Antarctic survival, land navigation and the use of Antarctic vehicles.
This training instance is part of the Antarctic cooperation between Uruguay and Argentina, which is part of the memorandum of understanding, signed between both National Antarctic Programs.
